| From the Desk of Paul Womble, Polk EM Program Manager:
July 20:
Red Cross needs some help with their station. They have a
dual band mobile, a base station on our 800 system, and a low band radio
on their ARC 47.42 frequency. I bought them a dual band vertical that
needs to be installed. The entry port into the building needs some
attention too. They are talking about moving their comm equipment in the
building. Not sure if all that will happen at the same time. I will find
out. We also need to pull the old boat anchor low band base station and
swap it out for a different radio.
They don't have an antenna for that band yet. 47.42 is the ARC frequency
that all of their ERV's use. I would like to get this done in the next
few weeks if possible. I have a new 50' Rohn pushup pole we need to put
there in place of the current mast.
I am also putting a dual band antenna, along with an antenna for one of
our satellite phones, at the Stuart Center in South Bartow. This will
give us some minimal communications from there.
Our plan for the next two hurricane seasons (until the
new EOC is open) is to be in the Stuart Center before impact from a
hurricane. We should plan a field trip down there after the antenna work
is done.
