LATEST NEWS:

Aug 16th, 08: Polk ARES responds to the state executive order, ARES Staff Command is
set to BLUE, Members are notified of actions and will be holding an ARES NET pending
the outcome of the Polk County Emerg. Mgmt Meeting set for Sunday the 17th after 2 pm.
All ARES members are to monitor 146.985 for further developments.

May 30, 2008:
Laura Pennington assumes the role of Assistant Emergency Coordinator for
Polk ARES.

September 21, 2007:
Some minor changes made to the site, took the D-Star web page
and made it accessible now that some of the information has been
updated and things moving forward on it. ARES APPLICATION has been
fixed, thanks to Mike Edwards, KI4OFU for his help on this.
D-Star is slowly making it's way into the area, now that we have a
repeater located in Lakeland, and a gateway to go with it, it's not
your AVERAGE IRLP/ECHOLINK kinda thing now!

Sept 27th, a D-Star presentation will be done at the monthly ARES
meeting at the EOC, starts at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there.

Mach 29th, 2007:
Polk ARES meeting will have Paul Toth, NA4AR as the guest
speaker. He will be discussing the up coming event, MS150 BIKE Ride
and will be going over the details of this event. 85 percent of the
race this year will be through the Eastern parts of POLK COUNTY.
Amateur Radio operators will be providing key communications during
this event which is taking place April 21st and 22nd of 2007.

2007 News and Events

January 25: First ARES meeting of the year, 800MHZ radio refresher
followed by an informational session on EchoLink / IRLP with an IRLP
LIVE CONTACT with VK2KCN in Sydney Au., Discussion on February's
NTS class and activity, to include an HF setup outside the EOC and
sending NTS traffic on 80 and 40 meters. To close up the meeting
Thom introduced everyone to the planning stages of a County GMRS
repeater located in Bartow for Polk CERT Teams to use during a
disaster event or time of need. The MS150 Bike Ride will be hosted in
POLK COUNTY going from Cypress Gardens to SEA WORLD Saturday and
back to C.G. on Sunday. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE, we are looking for GMRS
CERT, and other Amateur Radio operators to join this growing group.
ALSO LOOKING for AUX MEDICAL AND VOLUNTEER FIRE PERSONNEL
to help out with the MS150 bike ride as well. More to come!

2006 events:

August 2006
Polk ARES is proud and honored to welcome members of
the Polk County GMRS Group to it's membership!

The Polk County GMRS group will be joining Polk ARES at it's
monthly meetings, as a commitment to providing Emergency
Communications to citizens of Polk County through the resources
of R.E.A.C.T.

ARES NETS ARE NOW ACTIVE ON 
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AT 7:30 P.M.
Loren will be the Net Control for the net. Please join us!


Sept. 1, 2006
Polk County Emergency Management is currently working on a new program
that will involve members of Polk County, ARES, & Polk GMRS. 
Once the information is made available to us, we will have a special 
meeting to discuss the program. The program will be ran by 
Polk County Emergency Management.
POLK ARES is proud to provide support to Polk E.M.

November 9, 2006:

Polk County Emergency Management has released information on
ICS training, to be conducted at the Polk County EOC, located at
that Bartow Airport. The release can be viewed here.

Web Changes

May 27th, 2006: polkemcomm.org gets major face lift.

June 26th: FD-06' web pages are updated and photos added.

Aug 31st.: After a few minor bugs to work out, there are some
errors that need to be worked out. The ARES APPLICATION was
added but the submit is not working correctly. That is being
addressed. Loren and Pat has photo's added, The net information
page has been updated, others to follow...

 

FIELD DAY 2006

Field Day 2006 class TWO FOXTROT, KF4I, worked from
the Polk County EOC, parking lot, located at the Bartow Airbase!! 
Field Day 2006 has come to a close, Thanks to PCEM and
Polk County Fire Captain, Captain Hart, for their support.
